Dhaka, Aug 22 (V7N) – Candidates whose primary nominations for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall parliamentary elections were rejected will be able to file appeals today and tomorrow, according to election officials.

From Friday morning, disqualified candidates began submitting appeals at the office of the Returning Officer in Dr. Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban. By 11 a.m., 12 candidates—disqualified earlier for submitting incomplete or defective nomination papers—had already applied for reconsideration. The commission will review the appeals and announce decisions on August 24.

Meanwhile, candidates have also started informal campaigning after Friday prayers. Chhatra Dal-nominated VP candidate Abidul Islam Khan offered prayers at Shahidullah Hall, GS candidate Tanvir Bari Hamim joined students at Ekushey Hall, while AGS candidate Tanvir Al Hadi Mayed exchanged greetings with students at Fazlul Haque Hall. Other panel members are expected to begin campaigning later in the afternoon.

In addition, a new 11-member panel representing Shamsun Nahar Hall will be formally announced at the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association this afternoon.

This year, 462 candidates are contesting for 28 posts in DUCSU and hall elections. The Election Commission released the preliminary candidate list on Thursday night, which includes 402 male and 60 female students. The final list of candidates will be published on Tuesday after scrutiny of appeals.
