Dhaka, Aug 31 (V7N) – SM Farhad, a general secretary (GS) candidate in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, has welcomed the writ petition filed in the High Court challenging his candidacy.

In a status posted on his verified social media page on Sunday, Farhad wrote:
“Your (the petitioner’s) legal initiative is a better approach than the long-term propaganda against me by various parties through photo editing and fake videos. We are constantly moving forward despite obstacles, conspiracies, or evil tactics; we will not stop on this journey.”

Earlier in the day, BM Fahmida Alam, Liberation War and Mass Movement Affairs Secretary of DUCSU’s Invincible 71, Indomitable 24 panel, filed the writ petition in the High Court bench of Justices SK Tahsin Ali and Habibul Gani. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 5.

The petition questions how Farhad, who was reportedly part of a Chhatra League committee, is now contesting as a candidate under the Islami Chhatra Shibir panel.

The Invincible 71, Indomitable 24 panel represents three left-leaning student organizations, including Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, and Bangladesh Chhatra League (JSD).

In this DUCSU election, Sadiq Kayem is contesting for the Vice President (VP) post from Chhatra Shibir, while SM Farhad is running for General Secretary. The election is set to be held on September 9.
