Dhaka, Sep 05 (V7N) – Mahin Sarkar, the General Secretary (GS) candidate of the Integrated Students’ Union, has withdrawn from the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections in support of Abu Baker Majumder, GS candidate of the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Union.
Mahin made the announcement at a press conference held at the Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University on Friday. “I express my support for Abu Baker Majumder. If he wins, it will be considered a victory for me as well, Insha Allah,” Mahin said. He emphasized the importance of the upcoming DUCSU elections for bringing structural reforms to student politics following the recent mass uprising.
Mahin also clarified that since it is not possible to cancel the candidacy of his supporters, his name will remain on the ballot, but he urged students to vote for Abu Baker Majumder.
For context, Mahin Sarkar was contesting as the GS candidate from the independent ‘DU First’ panel, while Md. Abu Baker Majumder is the GS candidate from the ‘Anti-Discrimination Students’ Parliament’ panel.
