Dhaka, Sept 9 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD), has alleged irregularities in the ongoing Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.
 
On Tuesday at around 5:30 p.m., a JCD delegation led by its President Rakibul Islam and General Secretary Nasiruddin submitted verbal complaints to Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan. The meeting was attended by the pro-vice chancellor, treasurer, and other senior officials.
 
Speaking to reporters, JCD President Rakibul Islam claimed that “large gatherings” had formed at eight entry points of the university after noon. He alleged that the presence of certain groups made the election appear to be “controlled by Jamaat-e-Islami-backed student fronts,” while the administration “remained inactive.” He added, “We strongly condemn this situation. At any moment, clashes may erupt. We want an explanation from the administration. Today we officially declare that the top authorities of Dhaka University have been fully politicized.”
 
Rakibul further said that his organization had submitted complaints of “vote rigging and manipulation” to the administration but received no action or satisfactory response.
 
In response, Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan acknowledged reports of gatherings at several gates after 4 p.m. He said the administration had immediately contacted the police and the Home Affairs Adviser to increase law enforcement deployment. “We are monitoring the situation closely,” he assured.
 
Rejecting claims of political alignment, the vice-chancellor stated, “I have never been associated with any political party. My responsibility is only to this university. I will welcome any constructive suggestions.”
 
Addressing allegations of electoral fraud, Professor Khan noted that media representatives had been present throughout the day and were able to visit polling centers freely. “Wherever irregularities were reported, we acted promptly. The vote-counting process will be displayed publicly. There is no scope for manipulation,” he said.
