Dhaka, Apr 23 (V7N) — Authorities have formed multiple investigation committees following a clash involving student groups at Shahbagh Police Station, which also triggered tension on the campus of University of Dhaka.

Six-member probe committee

A six-member investigation committee has been formed to look into the attack on students at Shahbagh Police Station.

  • The committee is headed by Assistant Proctor Mahbub Kaiser

  • It has been asked to submit its report within three working days

Separate campus investigation

A three-member committee has also been formed to investigate the situation on campus related to allegations of an objectionable Facebook post by a student of Salimullah Muslim Hall.

  • Convener: Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain

  • Member Secretary: Jawad Ibne Farid

  • Member: Dr. Md. Mosaddek Khan

The accused student has been issued a show-cause notice and asked to provide a written explanation within 24 hours. The committee will submit its report within 48 hours.

Background of the clash

The incident involved activists of:

  • Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal

  • Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir

They gathered at the police station over allegations of an offensive social media post concerning Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his daughter Jayma Rahman. The situation escalated into a scuffle between the two groups.

University measures

An emergency meeting of the provost committee was held, where the administration:

  • Urged all parties to remain calm

  • Requested everyone not to take the law into their own hands

  • Called for maintaining discipline and a healthy academic environment

The university authorities said the issue will be resolved through proper investigation, while urging restraint to restore normalcy on campus.
