Mongla, Sept 17 (V7N) – The authorities of the Rampal Thermal Power Plant distributed various educational supplies and bicycles among students of Digraj Secondary School in Mongla on Wednesday.
A total of 381 students received educational materials, including school bags, umbrellas, notebooks, pens, pencils, geometry boxes, water bottles and lunch boxes, during a programme held on the school premises in the afternoon.
In addition, 22 students—both boys and girls—were each given a bicycle.
The programme was attended, among others, by Rampal Thermal Power Plant Project Head Abhishek Kumar, Chief Human Resources Officer Md. Anwarul Azim, Mongla Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Manik Chandra Gain, Burirdanga Union Parishad Chairman Uday Shankar Biswas, Digraj Secondary School Headteacher Paramananda Biswas, school management committee Chairman Sheikh Mostafizur Rahman Jony and guardian member Bidhan Gain.
Speaking at the programme, Md. Anwarul Azim, Chief Human Resources Officer of the Rampal Thermal Power Plant, said the power plant meets around 8 to 11 percent of the country’s electricity demand.
“As well as generating electricity, we are working to contribute to the socioeconomic development of Mongla and Rampal,” he said.
He said the plant has been involved in various community development initiatives, including distributing educational materials and winter clothing, providing healthcare services, establishing safe drinking-water projects and creating employment opportunities.
The plant is also supporting the government’s priority tree-planting initiatives, he said, adding that the authorities are working to distribute and preserve 100,000 tree saplings in the area.
“We will continue such initiatives in the future,” Azim said.
