Pabna, Oct 01 (V7N) – A daylong science fair was held at Pabna Ideal Laboratory School on Wednesday to encourage students to develop scientific thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.
The fair, held on the school premises, drew enthusiastic participation from students of different grades, who showcased around 50 science-based projects on topics including solar power, pollution control, rainwater harvesting, smart agriculture and low-cost electricity generation.
Students presented models and innovative ideas they had developed themselves, explaining their projects to visitors and demonstrating how scientific concepts could be applied to real-life problems.
Abdul Wadud, chairman of Ideal Group, inaugurated the fair in the morning. Teachers, students, guardians and local dignitaries attended the event and visited the different stalls, praising the students for their creativity and encouraging them to pursue further innovation.
Participating students said they were excited to have the opportunity to apply scientific knowledge learned from textbooks to practical situations.
Teachers said such initiatives help foster curiosity, logical reasoning, creativity and problem-solving abilities among students by giving them opportunities to explore science beyond the classroom.
At the end of the fair, judges selected the best projects based on their evaluation.
A group of eighth-grade female students won first place with a model of a clean, smart and sustainable Bangladesh. Seventh-grade male students secured second place with projects featuring a gas detector, carbon purifier and a renewable-energy-powered social land model. Sixth-grade female students won third place with a project presenting solutions to environmental pollution.
Assistant Professor Sultana Gule Jannat Kona of the English Department at Shamsul Huda Degree College, Assistant Professor Mokaddes Ali of the Chemistry Department at Shahid M Mansur Ali College, and Assistant Teacher Suman Parvez of Radhanagar Majumdar Academy served as judges.
Guests later handed over prizes and certificates to the winning students.
Mokaddes Ali said science fairs play an important role in developing scientific practice and innovative thinking among students. Rather than limiting learning to textbooks, he said, students can enrich their knowledge by identifying real-life problems and exploring scientific solutions to them.
Pabna Ideal Laboratory School Director Zahirul Islam Zahir said the school organises the science fair every year to encourage students' curiosity, logical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.
He expressed hope that the students would continue to advance through innovative thinking and contribute to future developments.
