Dhaka, Oct 31 (V7N)- Students who failed in one or two subjects in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will be given an opportunity to retake the exams within a month, Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Mahdi Amin has said.
He made the announcement at the results publication ceremony on Saturday, October 31, saying the students would no longer have to wait an entire year to sit for the examinations again.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said 422,905 students had failed in one or two subjects. The government has arranged for them to retake the examinations soon so they do not lose an academic year.
This year’s HSC and equivalent examinations began on July 2, with a total of 1,270,583 regular and irregular candidates taking part.
Of them, 646,685 students passed, representing a pass rate of 52.12 percent, compared with 58.83 percent last year. A total of 40,084 candidates achieved a GPA of 5.0.
The examinations also saw a record number of absentees. There were also incidents of student protests over allegations that examinations were held under adverse weather conditions.
