RU june-6, (V7N)- In protest against the reinstatement of quota in government jobs, students of Rajshahi University (RU) have staged a demonstration.
 
On Thursday (June 6) morning at 11:00, hundreds of students gathered in front of the central library of the university. At this time, they chanted various slogans against quota restoration.
 
Speaking at the event, Sanjida, a Master's student of the Law Department under the Faculty of Economics, said, "As a woman, despite having quota in the first class, I am vehemently protesting against it. Because I believe that if I have merit and skills, then I can obtain a first-class job based on my merit and skills. I believe every girl in Bangladesh has this capability. When our Prime Minister was Prime Minister, did she need any quota? Certainly not. So we, the girls, also do not need any quota."
 
She further said, "According to the decision of the High Court, there is a total of 56% quota, with only 44% reserved for meritorious students. This is discrimination against the meritorious. Actually, this discrimination was practiced in Pakistan. We respect the freedom fighters and want to move forward with the consciousness of the Liberation War. However, we are not in favor of any kind of discrimination."
 
Al Amin, a student of the Department of History and Culture of Islam, said, "Despite having physical disabilities, I have been admitted based on my merit. Even though my subject was not included in the quota, I have not been admitted through quota. I am strongly protesting against this quota. I urge the Prime Minister to consider general students based on their merits. We are not against the freedom fighters. However, we will not accept any discriminatory decision."
 
Amanullah Aman, a student of Population Science, said, "Today's demonstration means that our demands have not been met. As long as our demands are not met, we will continue to protest. In the future, we will stand at the main gate of RU. Since the students will go home, we will build an intellectual movement through poetry, songs, discussions, and writings. He urged all ordinary students to come forward."
 
At this time, slogans were heard saying, "Down with quota discrimination, meritorious want freedom," "No to quota, want action based on merit." More than three hundred students from various departments participated in the demonstration.
