Mumbai, Apr 26 (V7N)- Widespread anger continues to simmer across India following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, that left 26 dead. Amidst this wave of outrage, Pakistani actor Fawad Khan has come under heavy fire online, with netizens demanding a ban on his upcoming Bollywood film ‘Abir Gulal’.
Fawad Khan, who had expressed his grief over the Pahalgam attack on social media, is facing a strong backlash despite his message of condolence. Many users have called for the boycott of ‘Abir Gulal’, while some are even demanding a renewed ban on Pakistani artists in India.
The backlash recalls similar sentiments post the Uri attack in 2016, which led to an official ban on Pakistani artists working in Indian entertainment. That ban was lifted in 2023, opening the door for Fawad's much-anticipated return to Bollywood. However, following the recent terror strike, that return is now in jeopardy.
The film ‘Abir Gulal’, which released its first look earlier this month, was originally scheduled to hit theatres on May 9. Sources suggest that the release might now be postponed, as pressure mounts from several quarters. Political groups like the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have already threatened to block the film’s release in Maharashtra, echoing past protests during Fawad’s appearance in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
In a further escalation, the Indian government has cancelled all previously issued visas to Pakistani nationals, effectively barring their entry into the country. This decision is part of a broader set of diplomatic and security responses to the Kashmir attack.
As of now, the makers of Abir Gulal have not issued an official statement regarding the film’s release date or Fawad Khan’s participation in upcoming promotions.
