Mumbai, Jan 28 (V7N) — Bollywood’s popular playback singer Arijit Singh has announced that he will not take up any new work as a playback vocalist for films, though he clarified that he is not leaving music entirely.
The singer shared the news on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, writing, “I will not take up any new work as a playback vocalist.” He thanked his fans for their support over the years but did not provide a reason for his sudden decision.
On another social media platform, X, Arijit Singh added that he would complete his ongoing projects, and a new song is expected to be released later this year.
The announcement came as a shock to his fans, many of whom took to social media to express their surprise and support.
Reacting to Arijit’s decision, veteran singer Udit Narayan praised him for his achievements, saying that Arijit has excelled in a short span of time, gaining awards, recognition, and widespread acclaim. He added that whether or not Arijit chooses to retire from playback singing is his personal decision but believes that he will continue contributing to music.
Arijit Singh, known for hits across Bollywood films, remains one of India’s most celebrated singers, with a career spanning over a decade and a wide fan following both domestically and internationally.
