Mumbai, Sep 14 (V7N)- Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has revealed that he received scripts for around 200 films after the release of Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur 2, but turned down every offer because he was waiting for a role that truly appealed to him.

In a recent interview, Nawazuddin recalled the period following the film’s success and said producers were eager to sign him for their projects, with some even offering him blank cheques.

“After the release of Gangs of Wasseypur 2, blank cheques would lie on my table. People would say, ‘Here is the script, and here is a blank cheque. Fill in whatever amount you wish and give us dates that suit you,’” he said.

The actor said he nevertheless refused to accept any of the scripts because none of the characters attracted him.

“I didn't accept any of those scripts because none of them appealed to me. I had decided to wait for the right character,” he said.

Nawazuddin added that he was already accustomed to waiting for work and believed it was better to wait another two or three years than to rush into signing an unsuitable project.

His breakthrough performance as Faizal Khan in Gangs of Wasseypur 2 became a major turning point in his career. The character evolves from an apparently aimless young man into a ruthless gangster after experiencing personal loss and betrayal, with Nawazuddin’s intense performance receiving widespread praise.

Released in 2012, Gangs of Wasseypur 2 explores the decades-long conflict between the Khan and Qureshi families and earned critical acclaim for its screenplay, performances and realistic portrayal of the criminal underworld in Dhanbad.

Nawazuddin was most recently seen in Main Actor Nahi Hoon, which was released on May 8. While his performance drew attention from audiences, the film received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics.

The actor is now set to appear in the highly anticipated Tumbbad 2, where he is expected to share the screen with Alia Bhatt in a pivotal role.

According to Hindustan Times, the sequel is being mounted on a significantly larger scale than the original 2018 film. A massive set reportedly spanning around seven to eight acres has been constructed in Mumbai, with an entire town recreated for the first phase of filming.

With a reported budget of around ₹100 crore, Tumbbad 2 is expected to be among Bollywood’s most expensive horror films. Filming began on April 7 under director Adesh Prasad.

The film carries the tagline “Pralay Aayega” and is scheduled for theatrical release on December 3, 2027.
