Renowned journalist, film critic, and screenwriter Sadia Khalid Reeti has been invited once again to join the prestigious Fipreski Jury at the upcoming 77th Cannes Film Festival. This marks Reeti's second consecutive invitation to serve as a jury member at Cannes, following his debut in 2019.
Expressing his gratitude for the invitation, Reeti emphasized the significance of Cannes as the world's largest and most esteemed film festival. He described it as an incredible honor to be invited back, highlighting the opportunity to contribute to diversifying perspectives within the global cinematic landscape.
With a background in screenwriting from the University of California, Los Angeles, Reeti has garnered extensive experience as a jury member at various international film festivals across Italy, India, England, Nepal, France, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
Currently serving as the cultural editor of Dhaka Tribune, Reeti is also the co-head of the West Meets East Screenplay Lab, further illustrating his commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration within the film industry.
Reeti's notable achievements include being selected as the first international voter from Bangladesh for the Golden Globe Awards in 2022 and representing Bangladesh as a film critic at the Berlinale Talents in 2020. He has also participated in mentorship programs with esteemed organizations such as Film Independent and Locarno Open Doors.
Additionally, Reeti has expanded his expertise through training in surrealist filmmaking at the British Film Institute as part of a Charles Wallace Fellowship from the British Council in 2023. He shares his knowledge and passion for film through teaching engagements at various universities and institutes.
In the realm of creative projects, Reeti has ventured into screenwriting and filmmaking, with appearances in Nurul Alam Atiq's web series 'Ashade Ghaba' and the screening of two of his short films at Oscar qualifying festivals.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 14 to 25, 2024, at Cannes Beach, France. Reeti's participation underscores Bangladesh's continued presence and contribution to the global film community, following in the footsteps of previous representatives like Ahmed Mujtaba Jamal.
