Dhaka, Dec 20 (V7N)- The body of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi has been brought to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) after completion of post-mortem at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
After the autopsy, his body was taken from the hospital morgue and reached the National Heart Institute at around 12:15 pm on Saturday. Following ritual bathing, the body will be taken out for burial proceedings.
The janaza (funeral prayer) will be held at 2:00 pm at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. After the prayer, Sharif Osman Hadi will be buried beside the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, according to family sources.
Since early morning, people from different parts of the country have gathered at the hospital premises to pay their last respects to the late leader.
Meanwhile, a one-day state mourning is being observed across the country today (Saturday). The national flag is being flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, educational institutions, government and private buildings, as well as Bangladesh missions abroad.
Earlier, in an address to the nation on Thursday night (December 18), Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus announced the national mourning following Sharif Osman Hadi’s death.
Sharif Osman Hadi was critically injured after being shot by unidentified assailants on Friday afternoon (December 12). He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Later, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital at the request of his family. On December 15, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment.
Despite intensive care at Singapore General Hospital, Sharif Osman Hadi passed away at around 9:30 pm on Thursday, doctors confirmed.
