Dhaka, Dec 28 (V7N) — Police have confirmed that the prime accused in the murder of Osman Hadi fled to India through the Haluaghat border in Mymensingh shortly after the incident.

Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), SN Md Nazrul Islam, disclosed the information during a briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Sunday.

He said that the shooter, Faisal, and the motorcyclist, Alamgir—who helped facilitate the escape—illegally crossed into India following the killing. Police are currently making efforts to bring them back to Bangladesh through legal channels.

Nazrul Islam also said that two individuals who assisted the accused in fleeing the country have been arrested in Meghalaya, India. In total, 11 people have been arrested in connection with the case. He added that six of the arrested individuals have given confessional statements before the court.

According to police, the murder of Osman Hadi was premeditated. Investigators believe that Hadi, who became a vocal figure after August 5, was targeted due to his political statements, which allegedly angered a particular group.

“The incident appears to have been politically motivated,” Nazrul Islam said, adding that the investigation is now at its final stage.

Police officials said a charge sheet in the case is expected to be submitted within the next seven days.

Earlier, Jamuna Television aired an investigative report revealing that the killers had escaped through the Haluaghat border, a claim that has now been officially acknowledged by police.
