KHULNA, June 05, (V7N) — An emergency meeting on the dengue situation and preventive measures in Khulna city was held yesterday.
Khulna City Corporation (KCC) arranged the meeting at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of the KCC, attended by representatives of various government and non-government organizations and ward-level authorized officials of KCC.
Speaking on the occasion, KCC administrator Nazrul Islam Manju stressed the importance of raising public awareness to prevent dengue, saying there is no alternative to cleanliness.
Referring to the successful implementation of the measles-rubella campaign and post-Eid cleanliness activities, he said awareness-building programs involving educational and religious institutions, as well as people from all walks of life, would be taken to curb dengue.
To this end, he directed ward-level officials to form committees comprising local imams, teachers, and political leaders, and sought the cooperation of city residents to ensure a clean urban environment.
The prevalence of the mosquito-borne disease usually increases during and after the monsoon season. Climate change and unplanned urbanization have contributed to a significant rise in dengue cases worldwide.
The meeting was organized in line with directives from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to determine preventive measures ahead of the upcoming rainy season.
Participants were informed that eliminating mosquito breeding grounds and protecting individuals from mosquito bites are the primary means of preventing dengue.
As Aedes mosquitoes generally bite during daytime, maintaining personal awareness and keeping surroundings clean were described as the most effective preventive measures.
Rajib Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of KCC, presided over the meeting, while senior doctors and distinguished persons were present.
