SANGSAD BHABAN, June 28, 2026 (V7N) — State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury has said the proposed budget is a comprehensive plan and it will help the country to turn into a self-reliant one.
“The budget is not only time befitting but also a comprehensive plan that would help to turn the country into self-reliant,” he said while participating in a budget discussion session at Jatiya Sangsad here with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir-Bikram in the chair.
Terming the budget as a comprehensive plan of the government, he said, “I can say proudly that the budget which was announced by our smart, intelligent and experienced finance minister is not only a humanitarian budget and not only for the welfare of the people, but it will help to stand the country on its own feet.”
All the sectors in the country have been destroyed in a planned way in the last 17 years and the budget will help to recover these sectors completely, he said.
Sharply criticizing the opposition for their negative reaction on the budget, he said everyone wants development of their area but they are saying that the volume of the budget is very big. If they want development, their budget allocation must be enhanced, he said.
As the opposition members frequently demand roads, hospitals and infrastructure development in their constituencies, they should have confidence in the government and our finance minister as they know that we will be able to implement these development activities.
During the election campaign, Yasser Khan Chowdhury said, we had made pledges of distributing family card, farmers card and health card for the people but the opposition had campaigned that these pledges are fake. But now they are keen to take those facilities.
Regarding the family card distribution, the state minister said the distribution of a family card worth Taka 2,500 per month to a women-dominant family would not only make the family self-sufficient but also bring economic emancipation in the country.
The state minister said the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on June 7 approved a proposal of Bangladesh Television (BTV) to acquire the all-media broadcasting rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026 transmission. The approval came at the 25th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) this year. There was no syndicate in this process, he said.
According to official sources, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting placed the proposal before the committee seeking approval to procure the media rights from FIFA through the Direct Procurement Method (DPM).
The total contract value for the acquisition has been set at Taka 72.71 crore.
Under the proposal, BTV will obtain the "All Media Rights" for the FIFA World Cup 2026, enabling the state-owned broadcaster to provide comprehensive coverage of the tournament across various broadcasting platforms.
The procurement has been executed directly with FIFA, the governing body of international football and the organiser of the FIFA World Cup.
The initiative reflects the government's commitment to making major international sporting events accessible to people across the country through public broadcasting services.
Once finalized, the acquisition allowed football fans nationwide to enjoy live coverage and related programming of the FIFA World Cup 2026 through BTV, the state minister told the parliament.
