Chittagong, Oct 02 (V7N)– Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested former Noakhali-4 Member of Parliament and General Secretary of the District Awami League, Mohammad Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, from Khulshi, Chittagong on Tuesday night.
Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, a prominent political figure in Noakhali, was first elected as an MP in the 2008 Ninth National Parliament Election. He went on to serve in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth parliamentary elections as a representative of the Noakhali-4 constituency (Sadar and Subarnachar).
In 2001, before his successful parliamentary career, Ekramul ran independently in the Noakhali-5 seat after failing to secure an Awami League ticket for the Noakhali-4 seat but was defeated.
His family is also deeply involved in politics. His wife, Kamrun Nahar Shiuli, served as the chairman of Kabirhat Upazila Parishad in Noakhali, and his son, Atahar Ishrak Shabab Chowdhury, was recently elected chairman of Subarnachar Upazila Parishad.
The reasons behind Ekramul's arrest have yet to be officially disclosed.
