Dhaka, Oct 14 (V7N) — Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, held a meeting with the Australian Ambassador to Bangladesh on Monday morning, marking a significant diplomatic engagement. The meeting, which lasted for about an hour, took place from 10 AM at Jamaat's central office.
Following the meeting, Jamaat Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that discussions were centered on seeking Australia's support for the treatment of those injured in the recent student movement . He added that the Australian ambassador had expressed a willingness to cooperate in addressing this issue.
The discussions also touched upon Australia's role as a development partner for Bangladesh. Dr. Rahman mentioned that they had sought assistance in skill development to foster growth and progress in Bangladesh. The meeting explored ways the two countries could enhance their bilateral relations and move forward together in various areas of cooperation.
This meeting was notable as it marked Jamaat-e-Islami's return to active engagement from its central office after a hiatus of 13 and a half years . The Australian ambassador, while addressing the media, highlighted that discussions also included political stability, human rights, and development issues in Bangladesh.
