Chapainawabganj, Oct 19 (V7N)- Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has sharply criticized the Awami League government, accusing them of behaving like "masters" instead of public servants. His remarks came during a Rukon conference organized by the district branch of the party at Hefjul Olum Madrasa ground in Chapainawabganj's municipal area on Saturday.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman commented on the current political scenario, stating that "survivors of the previous government" are now demanding electoral seats from the Awami League. He criticized the ruling party for not treating the people of the country with respect and claimed that they governed through intimidation. He added, "They became masters instead of servants of the people of this country. They made the entire nation slaves. We don't want to see any more masters like them in this country."

He further commented that if the Awami League were to be held accountable for their actions under the laws they themselves governed by, their lives would be "satisfied" with the justice served.

On the topic of elections and the abolished caretaker government system, Dr. Rahman expressed doubts about Awami League's intentions. "Awami League’s followers ask whether they will win the next election. We say they want elections but have not provided any proof of their commitment to fair elections," he said. He also accused the ruling party of dismantling the caretaker government system, which he claimed was essential for ensuring credible elections.

Speaking about communal harmony, the Jamaat leader emphasized the importance of religious freedom for all communities, stating, "We don't want to guard their temples when worship is actually done. Let them worship without interruption, and we too want to perform our worship without interference."

The conference, chaired by District Jamaat Amir, also saw participation from senior Jamaat leaders, including Dhaka Metropolitan South Amir Nurul Islam Bulbul, Central Executive Member Principal Shahabuddin, and Central Organizing Secretary Rafiqul Islam, alongside local leaders and activists.
