Dhaka, Oct 30 (V7N)- Former Agriculture Minister and freedom fighter Abdus Shahid was arrested late Tuesday night in the capital's Uttara area. Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman of Uttara West Police Station confirmed that Shahid was apprehended at his residence in Sector 10 around 11:30 p.m. on charges related to three murder cases connected to the anti-discrimination movement. Shahid will be presented in court on Wednesday, where authorities intend to request his remand for further questioning.

Abdus Shahid, a seven-time elected Member of Parliament representing Moulvibazar-4 (Srimangal-Kamalganj) in the 12th National Assembly, began his career as an educator at Kamalganj Gono Mahavidyalaya in 1973. He currently holds prominent positions, serving as the President of the Bangabandhu Shishu Academy Central Committee and as a member of the Presidium in the Awami Jubo League Central Committee.
