London, Jan 12 (V7N)— BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at the renowned London Clinic, is reportedly showing signs of improvement, according to her personal physician, Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday afternoon, Dr. Zahid said, “Alhamdulillah, Madam is doing quite well. Her health is improving, and she is better today than on Thursday. The doctors are closely monitoring her condition, even though it’s a weekend.”

Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment under the supervision of liver disease specialist Professor John Patrick Kennedy. Alongside physiotherapy, specialists in nephrology, cardiology, and intensive care are also attending to her.

Khaleda Zia’s family, including her son Tarique Rahman, daughter-in-law Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and three granddaughters, are constantly by her side. Dr. Zahid remarked, “Being surrounded by her family has positively impacted her mental health. She is cheerful and mentally stronger now than when she was in Bangladesh.”

Reports indicate that Tarique Rahman visits his mother daily, often bringing home-cooked meals prepared by Dr. Zubaida. Khaleda Zia is said to be eating small portions of rice, lentils, and chicken soup as part of her prescribed diet.

Dr. Zahid mentioned that adjustments have been made to her treatment plan since Friday. He stated, “Her condition is stable now, but further updates on her health will be provided after a few more days of treatment.”

BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas, who visited Khaleda Zia at midnight on Saturday (Bangladesh time), reported that she is mentally strong and spending quality time with her family. “It was heartening to see Madam inquire about everyone, including her colleagues and the situation in the country. She remains resilient and optimistic,” said Abbas.

Afroza Abbas, president of the Nationalist Women's Party, added, “Madam is remarkable. Despite her challenges, her spine remains straight. We hope she recovers fully and returns to lead the nation soon.”

Khaleda Zia arrived in London on January 8 and was directly admitted to the London Clinic from Heathrow Airport. Her health check-ups and treatments began immediately. UK BNP President MA Malek confirmed that the medical team has been conducting thorough examinations since her arrival.

Khaleda Zia has sought blessings from the people of Bangladesh for her recovery. With continued family support and advanced medical care, hopes remain high for her return to good health.
