London, Jan 22 (V7N) — Doctors at a London clinic have decided to provide BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia with comprehensive treatment under a 'one-stop service' approach. This initiative aims to streamline her care for multiple health conditions.
Khaleda Zia's personal physician, Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, shared the update with the media today. He confirmed that she has been admitted to the London Clinic since January 8, where a medical board led by Professor John Patrick Kennedy is overseeing her treatment. Additional consultations with two London-based specialists are scheduled in the coming days.
“Madam is being treated for liver, kidney, heart, diabetes, blood pressure, and rheumatoid arthritis,” Zahid Hossain stated. “To ensure a cohesive treatment plan, members of Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States participated in the medical board meeting virtually, aligning efforts to provide a unified care approach.”
The board is factoring in her age, overall health condition, and the impact of her prolonged imprisonment in Bangladesh, which included limited access to proper medical care. A follow-up meeting involving local and international specialists is planned within the next two to three days to finalize her treatment plan.
London BNP leaders, including President MA Malek and General Secretary Qaysor M Ahmed, are reportedly working closely with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to facilitate her treatment.
Khaleda Zia, 79, has long been battling multiple health complications, including liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, heart issues, diabetes, and arthritis. She was flown to London on January 7, following months of political turmoil in Bangladesh, for medical attention. While initial plans included further treatment in the United States, her care will now continue exclusively in the UK.
This marks her first medical visit to the UK in seven and a half years, following her previous treatment for eye and foot conditions.
