Dhaka, Jan 23 (V7N) — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has expressed its interest in training candidate agents for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. The announcement was made by Election Commission (EC) Secretary Akhtar Ahmed following a meeting with a UNDP delegation led by Resident Representative Stefan Lila at the Election Commission building on Thursday.

During the meeting, UNDP shared feedback gathered from discussions with political parties and civil society representatives. The organisation assured the EC of support with essential resources such as cameras, computers, and other hardware to facilitate the election process.

In addition to logistical support, UNDP proposed skill development training for election officials to ensure a smooth and fair election. The organisation also emphasised increasing the participation of women and youth in the voting process.

"UNDP has committed to assisting the Election Commission with technical equipment and capacity-building training. Their feedback aligns with our efforts to organise fair and transparent elections," said EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

The Election Commission has assured that all necessary preparations are underway to conduct impartial elections and strengthen democratic practices in the country.
