Gazipur, Feb 10 (V7N) - Former Member of Parliament (MP) Chayon Islam, who represented the Sirajganj-6 constituency, was arrested by the police in Shreepur, Gazipur. He was taken into custody on Sunday, February 9, at midnight from the Matir Masjid area in Teperbari village.
According to local sources, Chayon Islam had been in hiding for an extended period in a flat on the fourth floor of a six-story building owned by the late Khairul Islam Milan in the Matir Masjid area of Teperbari village in Shreepur.
The police surrounded the building after receiving a tip-off from student movement leaders around 11:30 PM. Afterward, they arrested the former MP from a flat in the building and brought him to Shreepur police station. Suspicion arose that other criminals or suspects might also be hiding in the building, and another raid was conducted to search for them.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shreepur Model Police Station, Mohammad Zainal Abedin Mondol, confirmed that Chayon Islam had been arrested and is being held in police custody. He is accused in a case involving the killing of students during an anti-discrimination protest. Further details regarding his case will be disclosed later.
