London, Feb 11 (V7N) – Begum Khaleda Zia, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is currently undergoing medical treatment at her residence in London, according to her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.
Speaking to reporters at an event in London on Tuesday, Dr. Zahid provided an update on Khaleda Zia's health, stating, "As you know, the leader of the country, Begum Khaleda Zia, has been receiving treatment at a London clinic since January 8. At the moment, she is under the care of doctors at the residence of her eldest son and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman."
Khaleda Zia's medical team includes Professor Patrick Kennedy and Jennifer Cross, who are overseeing her care at home. Dr. Zahid confirmed that routine tests are being conducted as needed and that doctors have been making home visits to monitor her condition. "Her physical condition is stable at the moment. We request everyone to pray for her full recovery," he added.
Dr. Zahid emphasized the positive impact of family support on Khaleda Zia's mental health. She is being cared for by her daughter-in-law Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Syeda Shamila Rahman, and her three granddaughters – Barristers Jaima Rahman, Zahia Rahman, and Zafia Rahman. "With her family by her side, she is feeling much better mentally than before," Dr. Zahid noted. He added that Khaleda Zia is under round-the-clock medical supervision.
Addressing questions about Khaleda Zia's return to Bangladesh, Dr. Zahid clarified that her return depends on medical advice. "She will return home the day the doctors here advise her to or if they determine that she is fit to travel from abroad," he said.
Khaleda Zia has been battling various health complications in recent years, and her current stay in London is part of an extended medical treatment plan.
