Comilla, Feb 15 (V7N) – BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has urged the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus to hold national elections earlier to restore democracy.

Speaking as the chief guest at the biannual conference of Meghna Upazila BNP at Manikarchar LA High School ground on Saturday afternoon (February 15), Rizvi questioned why local government elections were held earlier while the national elections remain pending.

‘Government Must Return Power to the People’

"In the changed political situation, all democratic political parties have supported the government of Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Therefore, we expect that this government will return power to the people through early national elections so a democratic government can be formed,” he said.

Challenges the Interim Government’s Intentions

Addressing the interim government, Rizvi further stated:
"Don't you have faith in those who have fought for democracy and have been oppressed by Sheikh Hasina's regime? The first responsibility is to establish a democratic government. This government should ensure a swift return of power to the people through national elections to uphold democracy and reforms."

BNP Leadership Presence

The conference was chaired by Meghna Upazila BNP Acting Convener Abdul Odud Munshi and attended by:

  • BNP Comilla Divisional Organizing Secretary Principal Md. Selim Bhuiyan
  • BNP Co-Organizing Secretary Md. Mostaq Mia
