Dhaka, Mar 17 (V7N) – Claiming that a conspiracy is being hatched against the BNP, the party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, on Monday said that just when his party had the potential to gain majority support, a media trial of it has been initiated in the country.

“The BNP is being subjected to a media trial similar to 1/11,” he said while virtually joining an iftar event organized by Zia Cyber Force at a city hotel.

Tarique said there had been a plot in the past against the country, its people and democracy.

In his brief address, he said: “Gradually, a massive conspiracy is being formulated against Bangladesh’s democracy and the BNP. In combating this conspiracy, the support of online activists is now more crucial than ever.”

He also said: “We must establish a government that is accountable to the people. We need to unite and overcome all the challenges of the future, forgetting any ideological differences.”

Tarique remarked that the BNP has always played a role in the country’s development, saying: “A government that is accountable and elected through elections is the only one capable of carrying out real development.”

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir acknowledged the significant role online activists have played in the movement against what he called a fascist regime over the last 17 years.

"They made many sacrifices and endured serious repression during the fascist regime," he said.

Referring to the online activists as cyber warriors, he said they have to once again play a major role in thwarting the plot against the country and BNP.
