Thakurgaon, Apr 02 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has hailed Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s visit to China as a major success for the current interim government, emphasizing the strengthening of bilateral relations and future investments.
Speaking at an Eid gathering with party leaders and activists at his Kalibari residence in Thakurgaon on Tuesday afternoon, Mirza Fakhrul remarked that China has shifted its diplomatic approach, engaging with all political parties rather than maintaining exclusive ties with one.
"China is a global economic powerhouse, ranking second in the world. Their commitment to investing in Bangladesh’s production and development sectors is a great source of optimism," he said.
BNP’s Political Stance on Reforms and Elections
Mirza Fakhrul also discussed political reforms, stating that the current government, which emerged from a mass movement, has taken significant steps to reform the state system.

Reform Commission: The BNP has submitted its opinions and observations on the government’s reform proposals. Further discussions with other political parties are expected.

Election Roadmap: The BNP Secretary General expects elections to be held this year, in line with statements from the Chief Advisor.

Consensus-Based Elections: He reiterated that elections would be conducted through political consensus, ensuring necessary reforms before polls take place.
Eid Celebrations and Party Engagements
Mirza Fakhrul also extended Eid greetings to party members, mentioning that he had initially planned to celebrate Eid in Thakurgaon, but official duties kept him in Dhaka.
"Yesterday, after offering Eid prayers in Dhaka, we visited the shrine of our party's founder, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman. Later, we also met with the Chief Advisor to exchange Eid greetings," he added.
BNP leaders and activists from various district units were present at the event, marking the party’s ongoing political engagements amid the transitional political landscape.
