Sirajganj, Apr 09 (V7N) – Former Member of Parliament Abdul Aziz from Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) and former Director of Dhaka Children's Hospital was physically assaulted shortly after being released on bail in a case related to attempted murder and explosives charges.

Aziz walked out of Sirajganj District Jail around 8:30 PM on Tuesday (April 8), but was immediately attacked by a group of youths waiting outside. According to eyewitnesses, a crowd had started to gather near the jail earlier in the evening upon hearing news of his release. As soon as Aziz exited the premises, he was surrounded and beaten.

A viral video circulating on social media shows several individuals grabbing Aziz by his shirt collar, trying to force him into a vehicle, while others joined in the physical assault.

Muntasir Mehedi Hasan, the coordinator of the district’s anti-discrimination student movement, was reportedly present during the incident. Sources allege that he brought Aziz to the Borapul area of the city, where he was tied up during the altercation.

In response to the situation, Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station confirmed that Abdul Aziz is now in police custody. However, no immediate statement was issued regarding whether any arrests had been made in connection with the assault.

The incident has sparked sharp reactions, with many questioning the state of law and order as well as the security of individuals granted bail by the courts. Further investigation is expected to determine the motives behind the attack and whether legal action will be taken against the perpetrators.
