Dhaka, Apr 14 (V7N) – Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has accused the previous government of politicizing the Pahela Boishakh celebrations, turning the country's biggest cultural event into a party propaganda tool. He made these remarks during the party’s Boishakhi gathering held on Eskaton Road in Dhaka on Monday.

“This is the first time we are celebrating a Hasina-free, fascist-free Boishakh,” said Nahid. “We hope that from now on, Pahela Boishakh will be celebrated as a true national festival, reflecting the spirit and unity of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.”

Emphasizing the need for structural reforms, he added, “We want renewal of the state, and that journey began in July. But if the current state structure remains unchanged, the July revolution will be derailed. This movement is not merely about changing individuals—it’s about changing the system.”

Nahid further stated that the NCP is advancing with the agenda of holding Constituent Assembly elections, viewing it as essential for implementing permanent state reforms and eradicating fascism from the country's political landscape.

Echoing similar sentiments, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain emphasized the role of the interim government, saying, “The reforms the state needs must be carried out now so that future governments can carry them forward without resistance. This is a historic responsibility.”

The NCP's event concluded with a cultural performance and a call to celebrate Pahela Boishakh as a unifying force, free from political domination and representative of the people's aspirations.
