Dhaka, Apr 25 (V7N)- In a significant political development, renowned film actor and road safety activist Ilyas Kanchan has officially launched a new political party titled ‘Janata Party Bangladesh’, vowing to establish a state based on justice, transparency, and democratic values.
The party was launched on Friday morning (April 25) during a press conference held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dhaka. With the slogan “We will build a country of justice,” the party has introduced a leadership panel comprising figures from diverse professional backgrounds.
Ilyas Kanchan, founder of the Safe Roads Movement, has taken charge as the party chairman. Former BNP Vice Chairman Shawkat Mahmud, who was expelled from BNP in March 2023 for disciplinary violations, has been appointed as secretary general, while former state minister Golam Sarwar Milon has been named the spokesperson.
The leadership team also includes journalists, lawyers, retired military personnel, and former government officials, highlighting the party’s effort to bring varied voices into the political mainstream.
Presenting the party’s vision, Shawkat Mahmud said ‘Janata Party Bangladesh’ aims to build a transparent, people-centric political platform that upholds democracy both within the party and in national governance. He emphasized the importance of state ownership by the people and inclusive policy-making.
This launch comes shortly after the debut of another political group, Bangladesh A-Aam Janata Party, on April 17, led by Destiny Group Managing Director Mohammad Rafiqul Amin and Fatima Tasnim, a former leader of the People’s Rights Council.
With the emergence of these new parties, Bangladesh's political landscape appears to be entering a phase of reshaping, as alternative political platforms seek to challenge the dominance of traditional parties.
