Dhaka, May 04 (V7N) – BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that a section of the government is intentionally trying to avoid holding national elections by making decisions under false pretenses and suppressing opposition voices.

Rizvi made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a human chain held at the National Press Club on Sunday (May 4). The protest was organized to demand the withdrawal and release of all alleged false cases filed against Engineer Shahrin Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, former BNP Member of Parliament from Nilphamari-1 constituency.

"Some people in the administration are conspiring under fabricated excuses. They do not want elections. This government is making anti-people decisions and trying to cling to power," Rizvi said.

He further alleged that the ruling administration has failed to take a firm stand against India's unfair actions, adding that such silence is harming national interests.

Calling for immediate reforms to make elections possible, Rizvi said, “The government must take steps to organize elections as soon as possible. Reforms must be implemented with the goal of restoring people’s voting rights.”

The BNP leader reiterated his party's longstanding demand for the withdrawal of all false cases against BNP leaders and activists, terming them politically motivated.
