Dhaka, Jue 03 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has criticized the proposed national budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, calling it a mere continuation of the previous government’s financial policies, aside from a reduction in size.
In an immediate reaction delivered at Hotel Sarina in the capital on Monday afternoon, Khasru remarked that the budget lacks fundamental reforms. “There are flaws in the basic aspects of this budget,” he said, adding that the revenue projections are not realistically aligned with the overall budget size.
Khasru emphasized that the budget should have been crafted with a more pragmatic approach, taking into account actual revenue capacity. “Not much change is seen in terms of quality in the proposed budget,” he stated.
He also expressed doubts about the feasibility of implementing the budget under the current circumstances, commenting that the next government will find it difficult to execute it properly.
Meanwhile, a senior BNP source confirmed that the party will deliver a formal response to the budget on Tuesday (June 3) at 11:00 am.
