Dhaka, Jun 09 (V7N) — Former President of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid has returned home after receiving medical treatment in Thailand. He arrived in Dhaka on a Thai Airways flight (TG 339) at around 1:30 AM on Sunday (June 8).
Following his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Abdul Hamid completed immigration formalities and left the airport premises at approximately 2:45 AM.
Group Captain Ragib Samad, Executive Director of Shahjalal International Airport, confirmed the matter to the media. He stated that Abdul Hamid traveled like an ordinary passenger and did not request any special protocol.
Despite the political upheaval that saw Sheikh Hasina’s government collapse in the face of massive student and public protests on August 5 last year — prompting many Awami League leaders and activists to flee the country — Abdul Hamid chose to remain in Bangladesh. After staying for nine months, he left for Bangkok on May 8 for treatment.
Abdul Hamid served as the President of Bangladesh for two consecutive terms from 2013 to 2023 under the Awami League government.
