Dhaka, July 03 (V7N) - Dhaka district unit Jubo Dal president Yasin Ferdous Murad has said that an unelected government cannot bring real change to the lives of the people.
He made the comment today, Thursday, while speaking as the chief guest at separate meetings organized by BNP and its associate bodies in Baishkanda and Bhararia unions of Dhamrai upazila. The meetings were held at the BNP office in Baishkanda and the Union Parishad office in Bhararia.
Murad said that reforms will not last without the efforts of an elected government. He also said that only a representative government can ensure the country’s stability.
Calling for a national election without delay, he said, "People have not been able to vote for 17 years. Now they are eager to vote and don’t want to wait any longer."
Murad added that the recent people’s uprising on August 5 is not the result of just a one-month movement. “It is the outcome of 17 years of resistance against repression, false cases, and attacks. People have embraced the spirit of this long struggle,” he said.
Local BNP leader Arfan Ali presided over the Baishkanda meeting, while S. Ahmed chaired the Bhararia event. Other speakers included Abu Taher Mukut, Lokman Dewan, Ansar Ali, Abdus Salam, Enayet Hossain, freedom fighter Manjurul Kabir, Abul Kalam Azad, and Shahidur Rahman Shahid.
