Dhaka, July 16,(V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed deep concern and strong condemnation over the violent attack on the convoy of central leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) during their return from a peaceful rally in Gopalganj earlier today.
In an official press statement released Wednesday evening, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described the attack on the "March to Gopalganj" program as “despicable and barbaric.”
Mirza Fakhrul stated, “After the collapse of the autocratic Awami League regime in the face of a united student-public uprising, miscreants are once again trying to plunge the country into instability and sabotage the transition process through acts of violence and anarchy.”
He referred specifically to today's explosion of homemade bombs, arson of vehicles, including those belonging to law enforcement officials such as the UNO and police, and the injuries sustained by police officers, saying they are all clear indications of a deliberate attempt to destabilize the nation.
The BNP Secretary General further warned that elements loyal to the former ruling party are taking advantage of the interim period to sow chaos, hoping to manipulate the current administration and undermine national stability. “They have raised their heads again to reignite fascism in the country,” he said.
Calling for firm and immediate action, he urged the interim government to identify and arrest the perpetrators
