Dhaka, Oct 11 (V7N) – A series of cocktail explosions disrupted a Jatiya Party workers' rally in the Bijoynagar area of the capital around noon on Saturday (October 11), triggering chaos and a brief confrontation with police.
Witnesses said that following the explosions, a chase and counter-chase broke out between police and unruly individuals near the rally venue. To bring the situation under control, police fired tear gas shells.
Amid the commotion, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader was quickly escorted away from the scene by security personnel.
So far, no injuries or arrests have been reported, and the identity of those involved in the explosions remains unclear. Law enforcement officials have since cordoned off the area and increased patrols to prevent further unrest.
The rally began earlier in the day with a temporary stage set up on a truck in front of the party’s central office, where GM Quader, Shamim Haider Patwary, and other senior leaders addressed party activists.
Police said an investigation is underway to determine the cause and source of the explosions.
