Pabna, Oct 12 (V7N) – Leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami held a rally and gathering in Pabna on Sunday, demanding the implementation of the proportional representation (PR) system in both houses of parliament and presenting a five-point memorandum to the Chief Adviser through the district administration.
The event took place at Shahid Chattar in Pabna around 12:00 p.m. District Jamaat Amir Professor Abu Taleb Mondal, Naib Amir Maulana Zahurul Islam, Principal Maulana Iqbal Hossain, and Secretary Maulana Abdul Gaffar Khan addressed the gathering.
Speakers emphasized the need for PR, stating that “more than half of the world’s democratic countries use the PR system. Developed nations widely implement it. The current system over the past 55 years has given us nothing but autocracy and fascism. To ensure politics free from grouping, violence, corruption, and terror, and to secure a fascism-free Bangladesh in the future, the PR system is essential.”
Following the speeches, participants took out a large procession, starting from Shahid Chattar, moving along Abdul Hamid Road to Zero Point, and ending in front of the District Commissioner’s office.
Jamaat-e-Islami senior leaders subsequently submitted their memorandum to the Chief Adviser through District Commissioner Mohammad Mofizul Islam, formally requesting the adoption of the PR system and related constitutional reforms.
