Dhaka, Nov 03 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced the names of its candidates for 237 parliamentary constituencies ahead of the upcoming national election. The announcement was made on Monday evening at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka. Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir formally presented the candidate list.
Fakhrul stated that the decision on the remaining 63 constituencies has not yet been finalized, and the announced nominations are subject to change if necessary. According to party sources, several seats will be reserved for alliance partners within the 300 constituencies.
The list includes nearly all senior leaders of the BNP, except Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is set to contest from three constituencies — Dinajpur-3, Bogura-7, and Feni-1. Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will run for office from Bogura-6, while Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will contest from Thakurgaon-1.
Among the party’s Standing Committee members, Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain will run from Cumilla-2, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan from Narsingdi-2, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy from Dhaka-3, Mirza Abbas from Dhaka-8, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury from Chattogram-10, Salahuddin Ahmed from Cox’s Bazar-1, Professor A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain from Dinajpur-6, Major (Retd.) Hafizuddin Ahmed Bir Bikrom from Bhola-3, and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku from Sirajganj-2.
Several other central leaders have also been nominated. Former Education Minister Dr. Osman Faruk will contest from Kishoreganj-3, former Minister Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury from Patuakhali-1, and former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar from Netrakona-1.
Other prominent candidates include Mizanur Rahman Minu (Rajshahi-2), Professor Nazrul Islam (Rajshahi-5), Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu (Natore-2), Nityananda Rai Chowdhury (Magura-2), Mojibur Rahman Sarwar (Barishal-5), M. Rashiduzzaman Millat (Jamalpur-1), Mizanur Rahman Sinha (Munshiganj-2), Amanullah Aman (Dhaka-2), A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milan (Chandpur-1), Zainul Abdin Faruk (Noakhali-2), Md. Barkat Ullah Bulu (Noakhali-3), and Shahin Uddin Chowdhury Annie (Lakshmipur-3).
Party insiders indicated that the BNP leadership plans to finalize its remaining nominations after further discussion with grassroots leaders and alliance representatives. With this announcement, the BNP has effectively entered the final phase of its election preparation, aiming to regain political ground amid the country’s heightened pre-election atmosphere.
