Dhaka, Nov 21 (V7N) — In the aftermath of the strongest earthquake to hit Bangladesh in three decades, BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain has warned that the country cannot assume safety following today’s tremor and must urgently strengthen its preparedness.
Speaking at a discussion meeting organized by the Fishermen’s Party to mark Revolution and Solidarity Day at the National Press Club on Friday, Dr. Zahid urged the government to take prompt and effective measures to confront potential future earthquakes.
“There is no reason to think Bangladesh will be safe after today’s earthquake. Preparations must be made now,”
— Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain
He further expressed concern that the nations contributing most to global climate change are failing to take meaningful action. Without proactive measures at the state level and alertness from relevant authorities, Bangladesh risks facing a catastrophic disaster, he warned.
Dr. Zahid also prayed for the souls of those who lost their lives in the earthquake and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
