Dhaka, Dec 13 (V7N)- The medical board formed to oversee the treatment of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Manch and a potential candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, has said that his physical condition remains extremely critical following a shooting incident.
In a statement sent to the media on Saturday afternoon, the medical board said Hadi sustained severe brain damage after being shot by miscreants in the Bijoynagar area of the capital on Friday afternoon. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he underwent emergency surgery on his head. Later, following the family’s decision, he was shifted to Evercare Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment in the Critical Care Unit (CCU).
According to the medical board, surgical intervention on the brain has been completed and the patient is now under conservative management following the brain protection protocol. A repeat CT scan of the brain may be conducted once his physical condition stabilizes.
The statement said Hadi also sustained lung injuries, for which a chest drain tube has been kept in place due to ongoing blood drainage. He remains on ventilator support, which is being managed cautiously to prevent lung infection and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).
The board noted that his kidney function has improved, and a controlled fluid balance is being maintained. While there was earlier an imbalance between blood clotting and bleeding, the situation has now been largely brought under control. Continuous monitoring is underway, and blood and blood component transfusions will be provided as necessary.
Due to brain stem injury, fluctuations in blood pressure and heart rate are being observed. Medical support to stabilize blood pressure is ongoing, and the team is fully prepared to install a temporary pacemaker if the heart rate drops to a critical level.
“The patient’s overall condition remains very critical,” the medical board said.
The board expressed gratitude to the doctors and staff of the One-Stop Crisis Center, Radiology, ICU, Anesthesia, Neurosurgery, and other relevant departments of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for their emergency support. It also requested prayers from the public for Hadi’s recovery.
The statement urged people not to gather unnecessarily at the hospital and requested everyone to refrain from spreading rumors or misinformation, while maintaining trust in the medical board.
