Dhaka, Dec 26 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed optimism that Bangladesh will emerge as a truly democratic state under the leadership of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Friday afternoon (December 26), ahead of paying homage at the grave of BNP founder and former President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

Mirza Fakhrul said that the people of the country have welcomed Tarique Rahman with what he described as a “royal reception”, adding that his return has brought a sense of change and renewed hope among the masses.

Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas said he believes Tarique Rahman’s return will help clear existing uncertainties, including complications surrounding the electoral process. He expressed hope that the current political stalemate would ease following the BNP leader’s arrival.

According to party sources, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to leave his Gulshan residence later today to pay tribute at the grave of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman. He will then proceed to the National Memorial in Savar, where he will pay homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War.

Tarique Rahman’s recent return to the country after 17 years continues to draw significant political attention nationwide.
