Dhaka, Dec 27 (V7N)- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman paid homage to Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, by placing flowers at his grave on Saturday morning.

He visited the grave at around 11:30 am, offering prayers and paying his respects.

Later, Tarique Rahman also paid homage at the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, located beside the Dhaka University Central Mosque. He placed a wreath at the poet’s grave, observed one minute of silence, and expressed deep respect for the national poet.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, along with senior party leaders, academics, and supporters, were present during the visit.

Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman left his Gulshan residence at around 10:40 am to visit the grave of Sharif Osman Hadi. After the visit, he is scheduled to go to the Election Commission office in Agargaon to complete his National Identity Card (NID) registration. However, the BNP media cell clarified in a Facebook post that Tarique Rahman would not visit hospitals, as he was not injured during the July uprising.

It may be recalled that on Friday (December 26), Tarique Rahman paid tribute to his father, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, at his tomb in Zia Udyan. After standing in silence for some time and offering prayers, he laid a wreath along with members of the BNP Standing Committee. Later, amid massive public gatherings along the roads, he traveled to Savar and paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial, where he also signed the visitors’ book.

Background: Sharif Osman Hadi was critically injured in a gun attack by assailants in Bijoynagar, Dhaka, on December 12. He was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital. Subsequently, he was taken to Singapore General Hospital for advanced treatment, where he died at around 9:30 pm while undergoing treatment.

His body was brought back to Bangladesh on the night of December 19, and following an autopsy on December 20, he was buried beside the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
