New Delhi, Jan 01 (V7N) – Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed his deep condolences over the death of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Rajnath Singh wrote and signed a condolence message in the condolence book opened at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Wednesday.
In his message, the Indian Defence Minister said he was deeply saddened by the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to her family and the people of Bangladesh during this moment of profound grief.
Earlier, upon arriving at the High Commission, Rajnath Singh was warmly received by Bangladesh High Commissioner to India M Riaz Hamidullah. The Defence Minister exchanged greetings with officials posted at the mission before proceeding to the condolence book.
After signing the book, Rajnath Singh stood before Khaleda Zia’s photograph, raised both hands, and paid his respects.
Sources at the Bangladesh High Commission said a condolence book has been opened in memory of Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister, where diplomats, political leaders and dignitaries from various countries are continuing to record their messages of sympathy.
Diplomatic observers view the condolence expressed by a senior Indian cabinet minister as a significant gesture, reflecting respect for Khaleda Zia’s political legacy and the longstanding ties between Bangladesh and India.
