Bogra, Jan 3 (V7N)- The Election Commission (EC) has declared the nomination papers of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman valid for the Bogra-6 constituency. The nomination papers of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate in the same constituency were also declared valid.

Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Md. Taufiqur Rahman announced the decision at around 10:00 am on Saturday (January 3) following the scrutiny of nomination papers.

Earlier, on the final day of nomination submission, nomination papers were filed on behalf of Tarique Rahman for Dhaka-17 and Bogra-6 constituencies.

Meanwhile, the scrutiny of nomination papers for candidates contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections is underway across the country for the fifth consecutive day. The process began in all districts this morning, with returning officers examining submitted nomination documents in accordance with electoral rules and procedures.

So far, the candidacies of three individuals have been cancelled. In Satkhira-1, the nomination of an independent candidate was cancelled due to inconsistencies in voter signatures. Additionally, the nomination papers of BNP and Islamic Movement candidates were postponed because of document irregularities. However, both candidates will have the opportunity to appeal the decisions.

The scrutiny process will continue until January 4. Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until January 20, while formal election campaigning will begin after the allocation of electoral symbols, according to the EC.
