Dhaka, Jan 03 (V7N)- Despite dense fog and severe cold, people from different walks of life have been seen thronging the tomb of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar since early morning on Saturday (January 3).
Although the government-declared three-day state mourning ended on Friday, the seven-day mourning programme announced by BNP is still underway. Hundreds of people began arriving at the tomb complex at dawn, offering flowers, reciting the Holy Quran, and paying their respects to the late leader.
Visitors said that Khaleda Zia consistently spoke for democracy and the welfare of the people. Many described her as a tireless leader who devoted every moment of her life to the country. Several mourners also referred to her not only as a national leader but as a figure of international stature.
Meanwhile, after the BNP Women’s Wing paid tribute at the mausoleum around 11:00 am, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi addressed journalists. He said, “The uncompromising leader of democracy taught us how to stand beside the country and its people. Khaleda Zia also showed us how to fight against fascism.”
Security measures around the tomb area were tightened as a large number of mourners continued to gather throughout the morning.
