Dhaka, Jan 31 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas on Saturday said that while the country has been saved from Sheikh Hasina, it must also be protected from what he described as “some unelected boys.”

He made the remarks while speaking at a meeting with BAIRA and HUB leaders at Anand Bhaban in Paltan on Saturday.

Mirza Abbas criticized certain individuals for what he termed excessive and unnecessary rhetoric. “Some boys are talking endlessly. Even if they don’t take the name of Allah when they wake up, they take my name. I would tell them—take the name of Allah when you wake up and praise Him,” he said.

Referring to the Dhaka-8 constituency, the senior BNP leader alleged that attempts were being made there which could disrupt the voting process nationwide. “Still, we are patient and enduring. But patience has its limits. BNP wants a transparent election,” he added.

He also rejected claims that the upcoming election was “donated” or easily achieved. “Some people say everything happened on August 5. But how much sacrifice have we made over the last 17 years? We are still not in the position we should be in after Sheikh Hasina fled,” he said.

Mirza Abbas further stated that he had never compromised for personal gain. “No one could make Mirza Abbas drink even a cup of tea in exchange for any interest,” he remarked.

The BNP leader also alleged that a certain group had ordered four million burqas, claiming there was a “sinister motive” behind the move, though he did not provide further details.

Warning about the election process, Mirza Abbas said any delay in announcing results would not be acceptable. “If the election results are delayed for more than 12 hours after voting ends, it will not be accepted under any circumstances,” he said.

He added that BNP would not hesitate to launch a movement if necessary. “No polling agent will leave a polling center until the center-wise results are officially announced,” he warned.
