Dhaka, Feb 03 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury commented on the recent statements of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, saying he was surprised by the extent of the Jamaat leader’s knowledge about the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

“I did not know that the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami has so much knowledge about the Liberation War. Now I am happy to see the extent of his knowledge about who declared the Liberation War,” Amir Khasru said during a roundtable discussion on elections at a hotel in Dhaka on Tuesday (February 3).

Addressing the Jamaat Ameer directly, he added:

“People want to learn from the history of the Liberation War of Bangladesh? Rather, people want to know what is your program for the future. What will you do for the people?”

He further stated:

“We do not need to market Ziaur Rahman.”

Amir Khasru also warned that such statements could backfire politically:

“They are harming themselves even more. If they still have some acceptance, they seem to be losing it through such statements.”
