Dhaka, Feb 13 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami failed to secure significant victories in the 13th National Parliament elections, with all of its top leaders and heavyweight candidates losing their contests.

Among those defeated were Mia Golam Parwar, AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, and Mohammad Shishir Monir, a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court and former central secretary of Chhatra Shibir.

Key Constituency Results:

  • Khulna-5 (Dumuria-Phultala Upazilas):

    • BNP candidate Mohammad Ali Asgar Lobi won by 2,702 votes, receiving 147,658 votes with the paddy sheaf symbol.

    • Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar received 144,956 votes with the scales symbol.

    • Results were announced by Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer ASM Jamshed Khandaker on Thursday night.

  • Cox's Bazar-2 (Moheshkhali-Kutubdia):

    • BNP candidate Alamgir Mohammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid won unofficially with 125,262 votes.

    • Jamaat Assistant Secretary General AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad received 89,634 votes.

    • Results were confirmed by Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Md. A. Mannan.

  • Sunamganj-2 (Dirai-Shalla):

    • Jamaat candidate Mohammad Shishir Monir congratulated BNP candidate Nasir Chowdhury for his victory, acknowledging his own defeat.

This outcome underscores Jamaat-e-Islami’s declining influence in the current political landscape, with the party unable to secure any key parliamentary seats despite the participation of its senior leadership.
